Mind Map (mindmap.day) is a journaling and reflection app: short check-ins with an AI companion, by voice or text, a mind map of the patterns in them, goals and a journal. It's an independent project run by Shirshanka Das. This page explains what Mind Map collects, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it.
Mind Map isn't therapy, medical care or an emergency service. If you might hurt yourself or someone else, call your local emergency number. In the US, call or text 988.
What Mind Map collects
- Your Google account: your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID, from Google Sign-In, to recognise you.
- What you tell us at setup: the name you'd like to be called, your language and country, the companion voice you pick, and your emergency contact's name, relationship and phone number, with your consent to contact them.
- Your check-ins: what you type or say, the companion's replies, and what Mind Map works out from them: a mood and a safety level for each message, a summary of each check-in, your mind map, your goals and progress, journal entries, and notes about your day (hours of sleep, energy, screen time, and what shaped the day).
- Your voice: when you speak in a check-in, the recording is sent to be turned into text and isn't kept; Mind Map keeps only the text. Replies read aloud are made on the fly and aren't stored.
- Google Calendar, only if you connect it: read-only access to your main calendar. For the past 30 days and the next 7, Mind Map keeps each event's title, start and end time, and whether it lasts all day. It never asks for descriptions, guests or locations, and drops cancelled events and ones you declined. The access Google grants is stored encrypted.
- In your browser: only what keeps you signed in. Mind Map has no advertising or analytics trackers.
How it's used
- To have the conversation: the companion's replies draw on your recent check-ins, goals and notes about your day, and, if you connected it, your calendar from yesterday to two days ahead.
- To build your mind map and keep your goals, progress and journal.
- To keep you safe: each message is checked for signs of risk, and crisis resources are shown when they might help. If a check-in suggests you may be at serious risk, Mind Map texts your emergency contact that you may need support. The text contains nothing from your conversation, you're told when it's sent, and it's sent at most once per check-in and once in 12 hours. (Texting isn't switched on yet; until it is, no texts are sent.)
Mind Map doesn't sell your data, doesn't use it for advertising, and doesn't use it to train AI models.
Who else handles it
These services process your data only to provide their part of Mind Map:
- Anthropic (Claude) receives your messages, with the context above, to write replies, check mood and safety, summarise check-ins, update your mind map and translate. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic doesn't train its models on this data.
- Babble, a speech and translation service run by the same person as Mind Map, passes text and recordings to ElevenLabs (speech to text, and voices), Fish Audio (voices for some languages) and Anthropic (translation). Babble doesn't keep Mind Map's text or recordings.
- Twilio will send the emergency text, once it's switched on: it gets your contact's phone number and the text above.
- Google provides sign-in and, if you connect it, your calendar.
- Render hosts the app and Neon hosts its database, both in the United States.
Google user data
Mind Map's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- Calendar events are used only to give your companion and your mind map a sense of your schedule, which you can see in full on the Context page ("This is everything your companion can see").
- They're shared only with Anthropic, for that purpose. They're never sold, used for advertising, or used to train AI models.
- No person reads them, unless you ask for help with your account, it's needed for security, or the law requires it.
- You can disconnect your calendar at any time on the Context page or in your Google Account's third-party access settings. Disconnecting revokes Mind Map's access and deletes the stored events.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Your data is kept until you delete it.
- Delete your account in Settings to remove everything right away: your account, check-ins, mind map, goals, journal, daily notes, profile and emergency contact, and your calendar connection. Database backups that may still hold a copy expire within 7 days.
- Anything saved from a conversation can be undone from the conversation itself.
Security
Everything travels over HTTPS, calendar access is stored encrypted, and only the person running Mind Map can reach its servers.
Who it's for
Mind Map is for adults, 18 and over. It isn't meant for children.
Changes
If this policy changes, this page and its date will change too, and important changes will be pointed out in the app.
